baskets are finished from Making A Lather

Lucy's basket is a finished quilt. It has been a long time coming. The basket's themselves were a pattern by Bonnie Hunter at quiltville.blogspot.com in her book more adventures with leader and enders.  My daughter and a scrappy quilter friend, Lucy, swapped the baskets in 2014. We each made 230 baskets. I moved it from ufo status to assemble in October 2019. I put it on my top 10 quilts I want to finish in 2020. I didn't finish it like Bonnie did. I wanted something smaller.

There are about 2,000 pieces in the ...

Lucy's basket from Making A Lather

We had a visitor to our little Friday quilt group. She had made these little fabric star ornaments for each of the guild members for our Christmas meeting. We were all thrilled. When she made a visit with us she taught us how to make them.  I could follow along with her and made mine, but, I don't think I could do it again on my own.

This was the day I put my basket quilt together. I don't have a plan beyond this. I am guessing it is about 65 by 70.  Each basket is 3 1 ...

I have the baskets quilt in to 2 pieces.  One more seam and it will be a top. Then, I will need to make finishing decisions. More here and Here and here is about my project.

I have clue 3 finished for the quiltville mystery, frolic.

Clue 1, Clue 2

I haven't started clue 4 and clue 5 came out this morning. Christmas has me a bit topsy turvy.

frolic 2 from Making A Lather

We had a beautiful fluffy snowfall last night. I may not be so happy with it when I go to physical therapy this morning, and drive in it, but, it is a treasure to see.

The rows are starting to come together for Lucy's basket. It takes a little bit as I feel the need to pin it at every junction, and, there are many junctions. It is such a wonderful feeling to use swap blocks and revisit the memories. More here and here.

I have clue one and now, clue two finished for the frolic mystery quilt. The ...

this and that from Making A Lather

It was a long weekend, I have been slowly cleaning for company and Thanksgiving. Not my favorite thing to do. So, I do it very slowly with as many distractions as I can find. I did dig the Christmas tree out of storage. So far it looks a little pathetic.
I made another sand castle block. This quilt is in the book string frenzy. I started it here and here and here.

...and 2 more florabunda blocks. This is a free quilt at quiltville- more here.

...and another row of basket blocks. more here

baskets from Making A Lather

I thought I had too many baskets from a swap years ago, but, it isn't looking very big when I stitch them together. I can make each row another 3 blocks of 4.
I do like the crazy fabrics, and the idea that 3 quilter's had a hand in making them. Matching them, to sew them, seems a bit fiddly, but worth the effort.

I have tried rug hooking again, and it is getting more comfortable with time. I did get another snowman done for my rug. This one is sporting a hip polka dot scarf.

I haven ...

November goals from Making A Lather

It's November and time for a new one monthly goal. Yesterday, I blogged about finishing all the blocks for my October goal. For the month of November, I want to arrange my swap basket blocks into a top. I could set them block to block...

or on point...

Last year, about this time, I was working on a quilt for my Granddaughter. I don't remember what distracted me, but, this is as far as I sewed.  I had a panel and a layer cake to match.

I need to lay it all out again, and try to remember ...

basket one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I have a dozen of these batting boards to use for block piecing. I never remember to use them, but, they came in handy for preparing my basket blocks. I really enjoyed making the blocks once the hard decision was made about which baskets to put where. It was really easy to chain sew, without the pressure of choosing.

I made a few basket blocks first thing in the mornings, and every chance I had, in between other projects. I was surprised how quickly I had a pile of blocks.

I had enough swap baskets to make 57 blocks of ...

Lucy's basket from Making A Lather

My one monthly goal for October was to make a plan for 230 swap baskets I have, and decide a plan. All I needed was a plan, and, the next thing I know, I am obsessed with these scrappy baskets.

Now my big worry is that, I did the math early on for how much fabric I would need for the sashings, and I had enough. Now, I wonder if my math was wonky, and what will I do if I run out of the fabric.

I know I will have enough to do each block, but maybe not enough ...
